Welcome to the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences' website at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. It is a very exciting time at the Medical Center: the new adult hospital has opened; University of Mississippi Health Care (UMHC) has been introduced as the umbrella entity for all our clinical programs; and we have begun a television ad campaign. Our new tagline, "Dedicated to Improving Lives", reflects our commitment to serving our patients, the community, and to making significant contributions in the field of medicine. Our department has outstanding capabilities in teaching, research, and clinical care. We have a faculty consisting of eight full-time and two part-time clinical otolaryngologists, one dermatologist, five full-time research faculty members, and twenty-four audiologists and speech language pathologists covering every subspecialty in the discipline. Within just five years of becoming a department, we came to be recognized as a national leader in research, education, and clinical care in our field. We aspired to be the best department in the country in terms of customer service, and we have now realized this goal. Our department prides itself on having fun, promoting a collegial environment, constantly pursuing excellence and improvement, working as a team, and being at the forefront of our institution and the nation in terms of innovation.
